We have all made the mistakes when it comes to dieting and will likely make more mistakes in the future. However, what if you don’t realize that your making a dieting mistake? You could be sabotaging your diet without even knowing it. Today Dr Oz talks about the top dieting mistakes that women make.
To help him with this segment Dr Oz invited a guest from the audience to the stage. She said that she is a “Two Weeker”. Of course Dr Oz asked her what in the world was a two weaker? She said that she would diet for two weeks and when she doesn’t see the results that she is seeking she gives up. Been there and done that many, many times! Dr Oz said that this is a very common problem so during this segment he has some tips to share about common dieting mistakes that girls make.
Gluten Free Doesn’t Mean Low Calorie!
Whenever you are at the grocery store and you see “Gluten Free” on the packaging many people think that this means that it is a lower calorie food. This isn’t the case. When companies take the grains (wheat) out of foods to make it “gluten free” they have to replace what they took out. Generally they replace the wheat with high calorie sugars and oils. Dr Oz said that many gluten free foods are higher in fat and calories than their counterparts. Dr Oz said to not bother eating gluten free foods UNLESS your body has an intolerance to gluten. Choose whole grains that aren’t made with gluten and you don’t have to deal with any of these problems. Dr Oz gave the following recommendations.
Amaranth
Buckwheat
Quinoa
Teff
Over Fruiting Diet Mistake
Dr Oz said that this is a common problem that girls make when they go on a diet. They actually eat too much fruit. Most fruits have a low glycemic index because of the fiber content but some have a high sugar content like pineapple, lemon, and dried fruit. When you are on a diet avoid the high glycemic fruits and stick with the low glycemic fruits with high fiber content.
Too Much Reliance On Protein Bars
Dr Oz said that many times companies are putting sugar into the protein bars. Dr Oz said protein is great but you should get most of your protein from better sources than protein bars.
Beanitos Black Bean Chips
Instead of reaching for protein bars to get your protein try beanitos, which are a black bean chip. Dr Oz asked his guest participant to try some beanitos and she loved them. Beanitos are low in calories, sugar, and have a high fiber content.
Drinking Too Much Fruit Juice
Do you make this dieting mistake too? Dr Oz said that if you are trying to lose weight you should limit your fresh juice intake to about 8 ounces per day. This is because they are high in sugar. Dr Oz recommended to drink Herbal Tisane instead of too much fruit juice.
Herbal Tisane
Herbal Tisane is made from the leaves of herbs. You can also buy the tea made from different parts of the plants. Dr Oz said that you could throw in some pieces of fruit to give it a fruity taste. Teas are great for so many reasons with dieting being just another one. In another segment on today’s show Dr Oz talks about how blueberry leaf tea is great for migraine headaches!
